The UK Car Brands Losing Market Share in May 2026

Some brands gave up share in May, but this is not a doom list. It is a month-on-month registration-share view, and one month can move around quickly.

Based on AutoRank registration-date records for April and May 2026. Makes are included when April plus May registrations were at least 1,000.

6.97% share

The quick read

Ford had the biggest drop in this May view, moving from 7.77% share in April to 6.97% in May.

Mercedes-Benz moved from 5.05% to 4.48%. Citroen moved from 2.14% to 1.63%.

Those are share changes, not a judgement on the cars.

Why it can happen

Registration timing, fleet deliveries and model availability can all move a brand up or down in a single month.

BYD and Omoda were also lower in May, while Jaecoo and MG moved the other way.

That is why the most useful view is the table, not a dramatic headline.
