Top 10 UK manufacturers by registrations from 1 January 2026 to 1 June 2026

The UK new-car market from 1 January to 1 June 2026 is looking very concentrated at the top. Volkswagen and Ford are almost level, and the rest of the leading brands sit close enough together that one strong month can change the order.

Based on AutoRank vehicle registration data from 1 January 2026 to 1 June 2026. Counts show new registrations only, not the wider vehicle parc.

March is the clear plate-change spike. June only covers 1 June, so it is naturally much smaller.

What stands out in the numbers

Volkswagen leads the 1 January to 1 June tally, with Ford right behind it. That tells you the top of the market is still being driven by familiar high-volume names rather than a single runaway brand.

The middle of the top 10 is tightly packed. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Vauxhall, Audi and Peugeot all sit in a narrow band, which means the order can shift quite quickly if one make has a better sales month or a stronger fleet run.

March is the busiest month in the dataset at 455,222 registrations, which is exactly what you would expect around the plate-change period. That makes this early-year snapshot useful, but it also means March carries more weight than it would later on.

Why this is useful if you are shopping

For buyers, this is a good sign. The makes that stay near the top of the chart usually have the deepest stock, the broadest trim choice and the easiest supply of used examples to compare side by side.

It also gives you a sensible shortlist. If you are looking for a mainstream family car or hatchback, the volume brands in this list are the ones you are most likely to keep seeing in the classifieds, at forecourts and in fleet stock.
