Key UK Vehicle Stats for June 2026
The top line is simple: registrations barely moved from May, but the fuel mix did. Electric registrations rose sharply month on month, while petrol and hybrid records eased back.
UK Vehicle Registration Trends in June 2026
AutoRank recorded 187,143 first registration-date records in June 2026. That is almost flat against May, up by 335 records, or 0.18%. Compared with June 2025, the dataset is down 51,830 records, or 21.69%.
June's most visible story is not total market growth. It is mix. Tesla had a strong month, Volkswagen still led the manufacturer table, and EV registrations took a bigger share of a steady market.

UK EV, Hybrid, Petrol and Diesel Trends
EV monthly registration share rose from 23.64% in May to 27.0% in June. In other words, EVs made up 27.0% of June registration records in this report. Electric records added 6,370 registrations month on month, while petrol fell by 4,128 and hybrid electric records fell by 1,596.

There were 50,524 electric registrations in June 2026. That made EVs the second-largest fuel type in the June dataset, behind hybrid electric records.

Tesla takes four of the top ten model-record positions in June. Jaecoo and MG also show strongly, which makes the top table feel more electrified than a simple total-market read would suggest.

Volkswagen led June registrations, but the biggest month-on-month gainer was Tesla, up 5,469 registrations versus May. Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and BMW also moved forward.

Volkswagen and Vauxhall had the largest absolute drops among high-volume manufacturers in this dataset. That does not make either brand weak overall; it just means June shifted share toward different names, especially Tesla and Toyota.

Most common MOT advisories
The advisory list is led by tyres, oil leaks and brake wear. In plain English: check tyres before viewing a used car, and do not ignore oily undertrays or thin pads just because the car still passed.
What This Means for UK Drivers and Buyers
Popular cars are not automatically the most reliable cars. June's registration chart says what people bought or registered; the MOT chart says how vehicles are coping once they are out in the real world.
MOT data is useful because it shows weak points that owners actually meet: worn tyres, brake wear, lamps, parking brake issues, engine warning lights and suspension springs. A buyer who checks those patterns before purchase is already ahead of the usual quick look around the bodywork.
EV and hybrid growth is changing the market, but age and mileage still matter. Older petrol and diesel vehicles can show different failure patterns because they usually arrive at the test with more years and more miles behind them. Compare fuel type, age, mileage and common defects together before making a buying decision.
June 2026 Summary
June was steady on total registrations, but not boring. EV registrations climbed, Tesla had a strong month, Volkswagen stayed top by manufacturer volume, and MOT data continued to show how much tyres, brakes, age and mileage matter.
June was a steady month with one proper shift. Registrations barely moved from May, EVs took 27.0% of June registration records, the overall MOT pass rate landed at 78.52%, hybrid electric records led the main fuel types for MOT pass rate, and the most common defects were still the kind of everyday wear items buyers and owners can spot early.
